Looking Back At January 2021

An iPhone is resting on a computer keyboard. there is a candle and the edge of some pink flowers

I’ll be completely honest, this is the first time that I have written anything in ages. You may have noticed that I didn’t upload a post last week. I just didn’t have the motivation at all*

*Point proven here as I stopped typing for about 10 minutes to watch The Vampire Diaries and check Facebook.

Anyway, I just don’t have the words at the moment, so rather than actually trying I have just been procrastinating. Quite honestly, I’m doing my own head in. I should be brainstorming ideas, writing, promoting and all I do is get distracted and start Googling pictures of hedgehog being anesthetised (it’s the cutest thing ever, go and Google it now.)

I really wanted to have all of Februarys posts written up by now and instead, I’m only just starting this post at half 10 on Thursday evening. Not good.

I think I know what the trouble might be is. I know what I want to write about, but I’m not sure if people want to read about it. Does that make sense? A lot of my ideas at the moment are centred around fertility and breastfeeding but I’m worried that it won’t appeal to everyone.

So basically, I’ve gotten into my own head.

Anyway, thats enough moaning from me, lets get into Looking Back At January 2021.

Mental Health and Wellbeing PLUS Daily Checklist

I did not promote my blog at all in January but I still managed to get over 1,000 views which I am over the moon with! As I said above, my motivation for everything has just completely gone out of the window and I don’t know why?

It’s slowly starting to come back now, and I’ve been promoting a bit more so hopefully that will be reflected in my views.

My Weight

This is me allllll the time at moment.

That’s all.

Mental Health

Towards the end of January, my mental health improved. At first, I really struggled. I think because Christmas was over and done with and I felt like I didn’t have anything to look forward to. But, the evenings are a tiny little bit lighter, the daffodils have started sprouting already and everything just feels a bit brighter now.

Plus, February is my birthday month, so thats probably helping too!

What I’m Watching

I thought that I might introduce a little section into my Looking Back posts, and That’s What I’m Watching. To be completely honest, this may be very short-lived as I tend to watch the same shows on repeat. Saying that I have just finished watching Downton Abbey (yes, I’m old!) For those of you who haven’t watched it, it follows the lives of aristocratic Crawley family and their servants. It is set between 1912 and 1926 in there is love, scandal, heartbreak and laughter.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED it. If I had a bad day (most days) I would sit down in the evening with a glass of Gin and just feel the stress leave my body. I fell in love with the characters, the way they spoke, the way they dress, the house, all of it! Honestly, I was surprised at how much I did enjoy it.

I also watched Bridgerton (this is what actually lead me onto Downton.) Bridgerton is set in 1813 and it primarily follows the life of Daphne as she sets out to find herself a husband, which was obviously the most important thing in that day and age. Just like Downton Abbey, there is love and scandal but also lots of sex! One of the things that I loved about Bridgerton was the casting. Some of the main characters in the show are black, however, there is no racial or ethnic stereotyping. This was wonderful to see from a period drama.

Here’s the trailer if you want to watch it:

What I’ve Loved This Month

Another little section that I thought I would add is What I’ve Loved This Month. This is for products that I’ve used in the month that I really enjoyed but that I don’t necessarily want to write a whole post on. Again, it might be short-lived, but we’ll see.

It’s just the one product for this first month and that’s invisibobble. It’s a plastic spiral hairband and what I love about them is they are so gentle on the hair, they don’t pull, they don’t leave that annoying kink and my hair feels so secure in them. I’ve tried cheaper ones before and they just do not come close. You can get them from amazon and they cost around £5.95.

My Goals For 2021

As I was checking back in my Looking Back at 2020 post and I saw my 2021 goals, so I thought I might quickly review them now, to see how I’m getting on. It’s always a good idea to review your goals regularly so that you can check where you are with them and see if they need amending at all

  1. Stop comparing my journey with everyone else – So far, so good! I’m actually taking inspiration from other bloggers doing so well. It’s making me realise that if I work hard enough, I might just make it one day too!
  2. Be more organisedSlightly. We have some birthdays in February and we’ve already bought some present. This is progress. I am not organised with my blog though. Must work harder.
  3. Get 10,000 views for the year – In January my total views were 1,152 which I’m actually really happy with! I barely promoted my posts on Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest so to still get over 1,000 views is just incredible! My growth has been slow and steady.

And I think that’s everything for this month. Hopefully my motivation comes back and I can dazzle you all with amazing posts for the rest of February!

Thanks for looking back at January 2021 with me!

Thank you so much for your comment Carol. I just didn’t have the motivation last week to write!

Downton Abbey is meant to be leaving Amazon Prime soon so I don’t know how I’ll be able to re-watch it! I couldn’t watch Scandal again, too many episodes per series! You are completely right though, you do miss things the first time round!

I can’t wait until we’re all together again too! xx

Thank you Mal. Sometimes life just gets a bit tough, doesn’t it? xx

Hey Lisa. I think you should write about whatever strikes your fancy, even if you don’t think it has broad appeal. I’m sure there are a lot of people who could benefit from content around fertility and breastfeeding.

I also LOVE Downton Abbey. In fact, my daughters and I were saying over Christmas holidays that we wouldn’t mind rewatching it. I have watched the first couple of episodes of Bridgerton and I’m really enjoying it too.

Lisa Jones 11/02/2021 - 11:58

Thank you so much. I think I worry too much about what other people think. It’s silly, I know because I expect that there are people out there who would benefit from it.

I’ve just started re-watching DA again, I love it! I’ve heard that there will be a second season of Bridgerton too! xx
