I want to talk to you today about the exciting world of matched betting and how I was able to turn just £15 into £400! Yes, you read that right! If gambling is a problem for you, you may want to click away from this post as it may be a trigger for you.
I have heard how fantastic matched betting is from so many bloggers, but I’ve always been quite hesitant to try it. I know absolutely nothing about betting and odds. It confuses the crap out of me. I don’t know what games to bet on, who to back. What if I lost everything? I don’t have money to waste! Also, if I’m being perfectly honest, I really don’t care about sports enough to place a bet.
Now, my dad was a different story. He used to love putting a bet on at the weekends. I remember he would quite often come over to me and whisper that he’d won £350 on a bet and not to tell my mum! I have no idea how he did it. And he always told my mum, so I’m not too sure why he told me to keep it secret?
Anyway, when the opportunity came up to work with John, a Matched Betting Tutor, I thought, why not? Let’s give it a try!
But First, What Is Matched Betting?
Even though I have been doing this for just over a month, I still don’t fully understand it. I’ll explain it the best I can, but I recommend that you visit How it works from the Matched Betting Tutor website as John will explain it much better than I can!
Here goes – Matched betting is a way of using the free bets offered by bookmakers to make a profit. You’ve seen the offers; bet £20 get £40 in free bets? With matched betting, you use those free bets and turn them into actual money that you can withdraw.
But Lisa, you can’t guarantee the outcome of a bet, so how do you make money, I hear you ask?
Well, by covering yourself for all outcomes. Take football, for example; with one bookie, you’ll back the home team winning. At a different bookie, you’ll bet on the away team winning and finally, at the third bookie, you’ll bet on a draw. All outcomes are covered, and you’ve turned those free bets into actual money.
I hope that makes sense!
What Are the Risks?
The only risk is placing the wrong bet or forgetting to bet on all outcomes. But if you have a matched betting tutor, the risk of that happening is very low.
Do I need any Betting Knowledge?
None whatsoever! Like I said above, I have zero clue about sports, odds, and all that jazz. It doesn’t make a single difference.
Is It Legal?
Of course, it is! I wouldn’t be writing about it if it was illegal, would I? Matched betting is completely legal. AND because it’s money won through betting, you don’t even have to pay tax or declare it.
Win, win, WIN.
So, How Does It Work?
John, the matched betting tutor, will talk you through every single stage of placing the bets. You’ll never be left alone to place any bet. This is great, as I would probably bet on the home team winning with all of the bookmakers and forget to back the others and lose all of the money.
Prior to placing any bets, John will send you an email with the bookmakers that you need to sign up with and how much to deposit. He’ll send you the links you need and tell you what offers to look out for.
Once you have set up the accounts, you will then arrange a time that you’ll both be available for the bets to be placed.
From here, you move on to the live chat on the matched betting website. John will tell you precisely what bet to place, with what bookmakers and how much to steak.
John will quite literally hold your hand throughout the whole process. You send him screenshots of your betting slip before placing the bet, and you’ll also send a screenshot of the receipt so you can’t go wrong.
It Must Take A Lot Of Time And Money Though, Right?
Nope, not really. I started with just £15. That is the only money that I have put in. The rest of the bets have been placed with the money I have won.
I keep all ‘betting money’ separate from my regular bank account. It helps me to see the money purely as ‘betting money’ and not my money to spend. Well, not yet, anyway.
And with regards to time, that really is down to you. I usually spend about an hour or two, four to five times a week, placing bets and setting accounts up, etc. The more time you have, the more money you’ll win. The less time you have, the longer it will take to make money.
Why Aren’t More People Doing It?
Because it’s confusing, that’s why! As I said, I don’t fully understand match betting. But John knows exactly what he’s doing, and he’ll tell you exactly what to do.
Anything Else I Need To Know Before I Start?
Sometimes you’ll be asked to provide ID and proof of address to open an account with the bookmakers. I completely forgot about this detail and confused myself a great deal. But it’s completely normal, and as John reassured me, all UK bookmakers are regulated by the Gambling Commission.
You’ll want to open a new bank account with someone like Monzo or Starling to keep all money separate and so that you can keep track of your profit.
I also set up a new email address, only to be used for signing up to bookmakers. It keeps everything all separate and makes it easier to keep track of where you have already signed up.
Matched betting works by utilising new customer bonuses. If you are already signed up to a lot of gambling sites, it may be a little more difficult (but not impossible!) to make money.
Finally, as John is quite literally doing all of the hard work, all he asks for in return is 20% of the profit made per £250. So that works out at £50 for £250. Also, you’ll never need to hand any details over to John, such as bank details, user names or passwords. You do all of that.
You can contact John via his website. Have a chat and ask him your questions. Make sure that you’re happy before starting.
I’ll admit it; I was a little sceptical when I first started. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. Now, I’m obsessed!
However, if you find it’s not for you, just get to the £250 mark and call it quits there. There’s no contract or obligation to carry on. Just make sure you pay John the 20%, and you can leave it there.
I dare you not to enjoy it, though. And with Christmas coming up who wouldn’t want a little extra cash?
Let me know if you decide to give matched betting a try. I’d love to chat and compare notes with you!
