Hey guys! It’s so nice to meet you all! I’m very excited to announce that I am going to be a regular guest poster on The Procrastinating Mum!
I thought I would start this post with a bit of introduction about myself and my family. My name is Laura, and I’m Lisa’s sister. I’m 39, and I have three boys, 18, 9 and 7. I’ve been with my husband for nearly 15 years but only married five years ago. I work full time as a housekeeper, and we have two gorgeous dogs and a cat.
My eldest son is from a previous relationship…. but that’s a story for another time!
This is all very new to me, I’ve never blogged before, but I’m very excited to be sharing this experience with you!
The things I’ll be writing about are my general life experiences of raising three boys, dealing with minor health issues, and the rather murky waters of trying to co-parent a child with a difficult ex! And, of course, all the fun that comes with a self-built extension.
Also, a little about how this uncertain year has affected us personally since myself and my husband were classed as essential workers.

Work
I’ve been working as a housekeeper for four years. Before that, I didn’t work for about three years as I was bringing up the children. It just wasn’t financially viable for me to work with all the childcare costs. Thankfully I loved being a stay at mum!
My husband works as an electrician, so we were lucky enough for him to support us through that time, though we did have to cut back a lot!
Previous to that, I worked in food retail for a good ten years and loved it! I went from part-time date checking to full time in charge of my own department, then trained to become a duty manager, and then progressed to a supervisor in charge of the store.
Once I had the boys, the hours became too difficult to fit in with our lives. Doing weekends, evenings, and holidays is not a good combination with a young family.
My eldest son has very recently gone from wanting to do plumbing to becoming an Air Conditioning Engineer. He’s found himself a good reliable employer and loves every minute of it!
Maybe not the 6.30am starts!
Home
I met my husband at a New Year’s Eve party that I wasn’t even meant to be going to! What can I say? It was just meant to be, I guess.
We are currently coming to the end of a self-built extension, just finalising the kitchen at long last 🥳 it’s been a very long 18 months!
My husband has done a great job of doing it all himself mostly. His father is a bricklayer, so he worked for cheese sandwiches and orange juice!
I’m quite handy with a paintbrush and wallpaper, so I’ve been able to do all our decorating thankfully saving a few pennies there.
Never again will I be digging foundations, though, so don’t ask! 😂
I would say I’m pretty old school when it comes to my parenting, respect your elders, always say please and thank you, etc. Schoolwork is important and comes before screen time, but downtime is important to myself and them.
Hobbies
When I get time, I like to do knitting, painting, go camping, go on walks, and occasionally play Gears of War on Xbox.
We are National Trust members and love it! I love finding new places around the country to explore, and the pups love it too!
My husband is not into Football, thankfully. He likes his cars and motorbikes and shares this hobby with our nine year old. He wants to be a specialist car designer/ mechanic when he’s older.
You should see the things nine creates with Lego! Anything he can build or make, and we lose him for hours!
Conclusion
Thank you so much for reading. I’m looking forward to being a regular guest poster and I hope you all come back for my next post in the New Year! I wish you all a safe and very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Here’s hoping it’s better than 2020!
Lisa – Thanks, Laura! I’m sure that you’ll all join me in welcoming our new regular guest poster! I’m looking forward to sharing some posts from Laura next year. With her three kids, self-built extension and life experiences, she has knowledge of things that I have no idea about!
And that’s it for this year! No post next week, as it’s Christmas! Thank you so much for joining me this year – my first full year of blogging! I’ve LOVED it and cannot thank you enough for your support.
I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Stay safe, and we’ll see you in 2021.
